Ribeira Sacra is an exciting area for the production of Mencia.
Located in Galicia in the north west of Spain, the Ribeiro DO is home to interesting wines from the Treixadura grape. Around 10% of Ribeiro wines are red, often made from Mencia.
Monterrei DO is the warmest of Galicia’s wine appellations. Located on the border with Portugal, it is known for its fertile, clayey soils which produce interesting wines from Doña Blanca, Treixadura, Verdello, Caíño Blanco and Godello. Of the small proportion of red grapes, the most common is Arauxa (the local name for Tempranillo), Mencía and Bastardo.
Famed for seriously good mineral driven wines from Albariño, Rías Baixas benefits from a cool and damp maritime climate and is becoming very popular.
