Introduction

By Paul Caputo

Barbaresco is undoubtedly one of the great wines of the world. As it is so close to Barolo, and produced exclusively from Nebbiolo, it is inevitably compared to its more famous neighbour. As such, the wines of Barbaresco are often considered softer, and more approachable than the wines of Barolo. Of course, these comparisons are almost always generalisations and the styles of these two great Piedmontese wines are dictated by producer preference and the individual soils of the various communes of the appellations.
