The Pays Nantais covers the western most growing area of the Loire Valley. It is famously home to the white wines of Muscadet, known for their time ‘sur lie’, and recently, for the development of Cru system focussing on terroir.
Extending across the whole of the Nantais sub zone of the Loire Valley, it covers white wine production with Folle Blanche. These wines are often relatively simple, but crisp, dry, refreshing and a perfect accompaniment to local shellfish.
Just south east of the city of Nantes is the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation, a source of some of the best value white wines in France. Covering almost 6500 hectares, the Melon de Bourgogne grape is capable of producing crisp, refreshing terroir-driven wines.
