Located north of Zagreb, the Zagorje wine region is known primarily for its white wines. Grapes such as Sylvaner and Graševina are commonplace, as is Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It is an area of natural beauty with gentle rolling hills incorporating vineyards and forested areas. In terms of red wines it is Pinot Noir that dominates.
Medimurje is the smallest sub zone of the large wine growing area known as the Croatian Uplands. There is a growing interest around the local take on Furmint, known as Pušipel.
