Established in 1896 and continuously family-owned, Te Mata Estate is currently New Zealand’s oldest winery. Their original vineyards, nestled on three hillsides in Hawke’s Bay since 1892, remain in use, and they have gained renown for crafting the country’s most enduring red wines, particularly the Bordeaux blends, Coleraine and its secondary label, Awatea. Te Mata prioritises regenerative techniques in their vineyards and were the trailblazers in achieving accreditation for both their winery and vineyards from Sustainable Winemaking NZ.
