About Querciabella

By Paul Caputo

Founded in 1974, Querciabella sets a high standard for Tuscan winemaking. Many consider the estate to be one of the original ‘Super Tuscans’, offering an almost Burgundian alternative to the Bordelaise associations of Sassicaia and Ornellaia. Querciabella stands out for fresh, elegant wines from the high-altitude hills in Chianti. The estate is also renowned for being one of the foremost advocates of vegan, organic, and biodynamic viticulture, being one of the first wineries in Italy to farm organically back in 1988.

Batàr was originally devised as “Bâtard” to reflect its Burgundian style. 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Bianco, the grapes are meticulously picked plot by plot, and fermented and matured separately. The wine is fermented in barrique, undergoes full malolactic conversion, and is matured for a full 42 months.
