Swellendam is a district within the Cape South Coast of the Wine of Origin system, located east of Robertson along the lower Breede River. The area combines warm inland conditions with some maritime influence, creating a varied growing environment across valley floors and surrounding hills. Swellendam produces a range of styles, including wines from Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. There are three official wine of origin wards here: Buffeljags, Malgas, and Stromsvlei. The Lower Duivenhoks River WO is not technically part of Swellendam, but we list it here for the sake of convenience.
