Gouais Blanc is a near extinct white grape variety that is renowned for its progeny rather than its wines. Its offspring include some of the world’s most successful wine-making varieties such as Chardonnay, Gamay and Riesling, and it also seems to feature in the family tree of almost every notable grape.
