Dimyat

Dimyat is a white grape variety used in Bulgaria. Known in Macedonia as Smederevka.

Parents: Gouais Blanc

Dimyat

A number of theories exist for the origin of Dimyat. One plausible version suggests the variety comes from Damietta in Egypt, and was brought back to Thrace in Bulgaria by Christian crusaders. Its naturally high acidity has made it a popular choice for brandy production.

A recent study has revealed Dimyat to be a crossing between the very old Gouais Blanc and the Moldovian variety Coarna Alba.

Dimyat is a vigorous vine and if yields are not restricted it will produce large berries.

Dimyat produces moderately aromatic wines with very fragrant, perfumed aromas.

Dimyat is known for its aromas and will typically give notes of citrus, flowers, and herbs.
