It was the Riserva that really made a name for [Fattoria le Pupille](/producer/fattoria-le-pupille) back in 1982, just a few years after the [Morellino di Scansano DOC](/appellation/morellino-di-scansano-docg) was created. This comes from a number of different vineyards spread across the zone, all with different vine ages, the oldest of which is dates to the late eighties. Soils are a mixture of clay, iron and gravel which makes for a complex wine. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel before a twenty day maceration and fifteen month stay in Slavonian oak. About 55,000 bottles a year produced.
