Established in 2001, Plà i Llevant is a Denominación de Origen for wines on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Covering a large part of the island’s central plains and east coast, the appellation enjoys a maritime Mediterranean climate of warm summer sunshine and mild winters; vineyards are sheltered from cooler winds by the island’s high peaks acting as a barrier. Native and international varieties are amongst the permitted grapes here; for red wines, these include Callet, Manto Negro, Merlot and Tempranillo, for whites - Chardonnay, Macabeo and Moscatel.
