The small village of Escherndorf has a viticultural history dating back 1000 years. Silvaner and Riesling are well suited to the steep clay and limestone slopes that curve into a natural amphitheatre and follow the arc of the River Main. The village is best known for its VDP Grosse Lage site of Am Lumpen 1655 which produces a number of exceptional dry Grosses Gewächs wines.
