The village of Castell lies at the eastern edge of the Franconia wine region. The village boasts the first official planting of the Silvaner grape, as far back as 1659, and today the variety makes up just less than half of the village’s grape cultivation. It is famed for the small VDP Grosse Lage of Schlossberg.
