A white wine grape variety originating in Central Europe, Sylvaner (Silvaner) is a natural crossing of Traminer (Savagnin) and the arcane variety, Österreichisch-Weiß. Having once been the country's leading grape, Sylvaner is now the third most planted white variety in Germany behind national icon Riesling and Müller-Thurgau.
